Helping our area seniors to remain independent and safe in their own homes not only ensures a higher quality of life for them, it saves the State of Michigan a significant amount of money. Studies show that the cost of living in a nursing home far exceeds the cost of providing assistance for seniors to remain in their homes.
Most of our senior services are offered in Huron, Sanilac and Tuscola Counties; senior nutrition programs are also offered in Lapeer County. Among the senior services we provide are:
Adult Day Services Provides caring daytime care to older adults who have Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia or physical limitations that prevent them from staying home unattended.The facilities in Huron, Sanilac and Tuscola Counties provide respite for caregivers while providing socialization and stimulating activities for these individuals.
Respite Care - Provides seniors with companionship, supervision, and/or assistance with daily activities.
Case Coordination and Support – Provides a single contact point for meeting health, social, emotional, and other needs.
Home Delivered Meals – Provides home delivery of nutritional meals in Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola Counties.
Personal Care – Helps seniors who have functional limitations with bathing, grooming, dressing, transferring, eating, and ambulation.
Chore – Help with household chores such as cleaning cupboards, washing windows, washing walls, installing storm windows/screens, etc.
Caregiver Support – Provides resources, education, and support for those who are caring for a loved one at home who is experiencing the effects of limited physical abilities, Alzheimer’s Disease, Parkinson’s Disease, or related dementias.
Transportation – Provided for persons age 60 and over in Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola counties to transport older persons to/from community facilities such as doctor appointments, the pharmacy, or the hospital to receive services.
Senior Dining Centers – Meals are provided in a group setting at 17 different locations throughout Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola Counties.
Thumb Area Senior News – A monthly newspaper for seniors, their families, and other interested readers across the entire Thumb Area of Michigan.
Senior Volunteer Programs – Opportunities for people age 55 and over are available in Huron, Sanilac, and Tuscola Counties through the RSVP program and the Foster Grandparents Program. Volunteer opportunities are available to match almost any area of interest.
