The Thumb Area Senior News was established in 1981 under the auspices of the organization then known as the Thumb Area Commission on Aging (TACA). Beginning as no more than a photocopied sheet of pertinent information for TACA customers, the fledgling publication gained popularity quickly. It developed into a newsletter and then into a newspaper of interest to a much more general audience. When, in 1986, the Human Development Commission assumed the administration of TACA programs, the Senior News really took off. It has grown steadily since then and, today, is a respected newspaper serving the interest of Seniors and the general public.
Thumb Area Senior News is now a monthly publication with a paid circulation. The service area includes Huron, Lapeer, Sanilac, and Tuscola Counties, and anywhere else a customer expresses a desire to receive it.
