Volunteer Opportunities
The Human Development Commission utilizes
volunteers in many capacities through out the programs we
operate. Through the commitment of dedicated volunteers we are
able to achieve our agency mission.
63,762 volunteer hours were provided through
HDC last year, utilizing the services of approximately 500
individuals, serving in the following capacities:

Home-Delivered Drivers (Delivery of meals three times a week for
home-bound seniors)

Congregate Meal Site Speakers (Presentations/information
relevant to seniors)

Senior Services Transportation (Transport seniors to necessary
appointments)

Adult Day Care (Aides in Caro, Sandusky, Caseville locations)

Foster Grandparent Program (Matching older adults with special
needs children)
-
Commodity Supplemental Food Program (Each month, food is
distributed to families with children up to the age of six,
pregnant mothers, and senior citizens)

Wear-A-Bouts (Clerks in resale store)
-
Assault Crisis Center (Provision of transportation, childcare
during support group meetings, accompanying women to
appointments)

Tax Counseling For the Elderly (Assist seniors in completing
their income tax forms)

Advisory Council Members: Domestic Violence, Senior Services,
Foster Grandparent, Community Services, and Community Dispute
Resolution
All volunteers that
are placed within the Human Development Commission undergo an
interview process to determine how their skills and interests fit
into the programs we operate. Prior to placement, HDC checks
references of the volunteer, as well as, a name check through the
Michigan State Police.
